Heidi Designs: Behind the Scenes

I’m giddy about the new animation reveal on our Heidi Designs homepage, created by animator Michael Dimilo.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Michael for at least 30 years. He is a joy to collaborate with, and I deeply appreciate his imaginative mind. Michael is a true creative designer, illustrator, and artist. I love the way he approaches design challenges. I’m grateful for his friendship and that of his wife, and I truly appreciate this amazing rotoscope animation. Thank you, Michael!

In 2000, I took a sabbatical from the agency world to raise our son, this morphed into a journey of homeschooling that organically grew into a family-owned education company. I have absolutely no regrets. We had so many incredible adventures during that phase of our lives. I feel blessed to have been able to share those experiences with our son.

When our son started high school, it was time for a change for me as well. Education is important to me, so I became a substitute art and science teacher at his new school. I loved working with the students, from kindergartners to teenagers. However, design is in my blood. Being a designer has been a constant throughout all of my career adaptations, whether in our education company, marketing firms, or my husband’s music and networking projects. So, starting a small marketing and media production studio seemed like a natural direction.

Logo Design

I enjoy logo design. Some logos may be a simple yet, thoughtful type solution and others may require relevant imagery. When designing my new logo, I wanted to use meaningful imagery. I wanted something playful, and memories of folding origami cranes came to mind. I love the tactile experience of folding origami figures. We lose the sense of touch in a digital world.

I’m also an illustrator, so illustrating an origami crane seemed like a perfect representation. I was going through some new changes, and what better symbol to use for branding than one that represents strength, resilience, hope, honor, good fortune, loyalty, and longevity?

The Animation Concept – behind the origami crane’s flight

In the stillness of her studio, the designer crafts an origami crane, a delicate symbol of hope and transformation. Inspired by its simplicity, she imagines the crane coming to life. The paper crane unfurls its wings and takes flight embarking on a journey of discovery.
To the designer’s surprise, the original crane led a brilliant flock back to its creator. The simple origami crane, once a mere fold of paper, had returned with a vibrant legacy, embodying the endless possibilities of creative expression.

Fulfilling her wish to share her idea with the world, she discovered that sending out her vision, love, and creativity not only spread joy, but also returned to her tenfold in magical and unexpected ways.

I’m excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. I am committed to infusing every project with the same passion and creativity that Michael has so beautifully showcased in his animation. It’s an inspiring reminder of the power of collaboration and the endless potential of creative expression.

I look forward to sharing more exciting projects and stories with you. Let’s keep creating and celebrating the beauty of design in all its forms.
